Lai Lai Art Named Top 4 Finalist at Nippon Creative Colour Awards 2025

On 20 June 2025, we were honoured to be named one of the Top 4 Finalists in the Best in Corporate & Commercial Exterior category at the Nippon Creative Colour Awards 2025, recognising the outstanding creativity and impact of Alice Chang Oi Lai’s mural, “Spirit of Land and River."

Created for the exterior of a commercial building in Kuala Ampang, the mural features eight lively Malayan tigers and a papercut-inspired fish lantern — a colourful and symbolic tribute to Malaysia’s natural beauty and cultural heritage. Painted in Alice’s signature pastel palette, the artwork explores the harmony between land and water, tradition and progress.

While we didn’t take home the top prize, we extend our warmest congratulations to the winner, Nosh77 Container Restaurant from Sri Lanka, whose bold and vibrant project truly impressed.

To be recognised on such a prestigious international stage is a moment we’ll always treasure. Representing Malaysia through meaningful, community-driven art is a journey we’re deeply proud of.

Thank you to everyone who supported us. The colours continue, and so does our story.

Alice&Alice
Come check out this hidden delight!
In January 2025, Lai Lai Art Gallery embarked on a breathtaking new mural project on one of its walls, a collaboration between Lai Lai Art’s own Alice Chang and British artist Alice Stainthorpe.
This vibrant masterpiece features eight fantastical, playful tigers dancing with a papercut-style fish lantern, evoking the energy of a lion or dragon dance. More than just a visual spectacle, the mural carries deep symbolism – the tigers represent the endangered Malayan Tiger, while the fish is a traditional symbol of blessings and prosperity.
Nestled along Lorong Awan 3, in Kuala Ampang, this hidden gem is our way of bringing art beyond the gallery, creating moments of wonder and delight for all who discover it.
Come and experience the magic for yourself – because sometimes, the most joyful surprises are found in the most unexpected places!
Watch the video below by Bonnie Yap to see how the mural came to life!
